Col d’Argentiere & Breche Puiseux

After two days of bad weather (filled with bowling & playing on the piste and just outside the pistes of Argentiere), we managed to make two super nice powder descents mid-february. The first day with clear skies we are a bit frightened for avalanches with all the new snow and choose for the safe option, to skin up and ski the col d’Argentiere (3.552m) over the glacier du tour noir (from the Grand Montets). Magnificient powder on the first part of the descent, and we ski all the way to Argentiere at 1.240m. The next day we ski the Vallee Blanche untill the Salle a Manger and skin up to the couloir that leads to the Breche Puiseux (3.442m). At the start of the beautiful 45-50 degrees steep couloir of 300m we put the skies on our back and climb towards the Breche, from where it’s an easy 40m abseil to the glacier underneath the Grandes Jorasses north face. Again, an amazing descent, and we ski all the way to Chamonix at 1.035m. I managed to fall almost back in town, with very low speed, and hurt myself quite a bit, but what a good day with good friends.
